Urban Strings is South Africa’s first multi-instrumental music collective. Officially formed in 2015, Urban Strings is made up fourteen talented and diverse musicians from South Africa. Fronted by vocalist, violinist and multi-disciplinary creative Larah Eksteen. The diverse ensemble exudes a distinctive sound which paints an authentic ambiance in live performances. Brought together by their musical disciplines, the pool of talented professional electric and acoustic string musicians are based both in Western Cape and Gauteng.
Setting the standard high, Urban Strings made their debut on the stage of South African Idols Season 11 & 12, performing on seven LIVE episodes since then alongside winners Noma Khumalo, Karabo Mogane and SA favourites such as Somizi Mhlongo, Judith Sephuma, J’Something (MiCasa), Donald Moatshe, DJ Tira and the Top 10 contestants. With a staggering total of 140 million votes cast for season 14, the show has reached new heights and is entering it’s 15th Season.
Urban Strings have taken a refreshing approach by pushing boundaries musically as evident in past collaborations with the likes of some South African artists namely: ProVerb, RJ Benjamin, Swing City, Loyiso Bala, The Graeme Watkins Project and Donald Moatshe. The collective has also become a favourite at corporate events for clients like BMW, Patek Philippe, Mont Blanc Nedbank, Naspers, Standardbank, Growthpoint Properties, Tsogo Sun, Mzansi Magic, SPAR, Baker and McKenzie, Glad Africa, Transport Africa, Kyknet and Webber Wentzel.
Urban Strings’ acts have been entertaining wedding couples and their guests since 2003, performing at exquisite venues nationwide such as Boschendal, Tintswalo Atlantic, Blaauwklippen, Cellers-Hohenort, Rickety Bridge, La Paris Estate, Cavalli, Memoire, Shepstone Gardens, Ground Venue, The Forum , Oakfield Farm, Inimitable and many more. With many years of experience they have put together an extensive and unique repertoire to suit the atmosphere of all weddings focussing on a Contemporary sound for all age groups.
The collective offers a variety of options, ranging from solo musicians to a traditional string quartet. Ideal for ceremonies and canapés/pre-drinks sets.
