The Hatchery

The Hatchery offers a unique wedding destination close enough to the major centres yet different enough to place guests in the moment. The surrounding villages of Mtunzini and Zinkwazi offer ample accommodation for those guests not staying at the venue. The Hatchery is set on a deserted old prawn farm on a river mouth and coastal reserve on the KZN North Coast. The history of the facility was kept in mind when converting the facility and the buildings look much like they did when prawns were spawned here. The result is a venue that offers a unique blend of comfort and rustic old cool in an idyllic setting. Our venue can accommodate a total of 100 guests.  Note that this is for the reception and not for the accommodation itself.

We got married at The Hatchery on 25 October 2025. The venue was absolutely gorgeous, everything we hoped for and more. The admin team was a dream to work with in the lead-up to the day: responsive, professional, and genuinely invested in making things run smoothly. Paradise found. Rustic but comfy accommodation with aircon in the room. So many special and unique chill areas, multiple pools, decent kitchen for self catering. We had a group of 30 and all thoroughly enjoyed our stay. 1 hour 5 minutes from Durban North and we felt like we were in Mozambique. Loved the solitude of the spot and we will be back in a hurry. – Gordon Reid

One of the most peaceful isolated little treasures I have been to! It is so quant. The staff are amazing and so friendly. In a place with very little to do besides appreciate nature, we find ourselves constantly entertained! I would recommend this place to anyone and everyone! Thank you to Matt and all the staff here.
